Grilled Cajun Calamari Steak with Aromatic Savoury Rice

This is a super-fast, super-easy recipe for a warm summer’s evening. Don’t be intimidated by using Calamari steaks, they can be very tasty and quite cheap if you buy them at the right places.

Ingredients for Rice

2 Cups Uncooked Rice

6 Cups cold water

2 Tbs Spice For Rice

1 Tbs ml Sunflower Oil

1 Onion finely chopped

1 Green Pepper finely chopped

1 Clove Garlic finely chopped

1 Tsp ml Garlic Salt

1 Cup frozen peas

Method

Boil the rice with the Spice For Rice.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the onion, peppers, garlic, garlic salt and until soft.
Add the rice and fry with the vegetables, mixing well.
Season to taste with Salt and Black Pepper.

Calamari Steak Ingredients:

4 calamari steaks (125 to 185 g) each

Juice of 1 lemon

1 Tbs olive oil

1 Tbs butter

Cajun Spice

 

Method:

Place the calamari steaks in a bowl and add half of the lemon juice, the olive oil and cajun spice (depends on how spice you like your food). Season with salt and pepper and toss to combine.

Prepare a grill for direct-heat cooking over medium-high heat. Grill the steaks until opaque, about 2 minutes per side and finish with more lemon juice. Serve on a bed of savoury rice.
