In the Platteland we love being outdoors and visiting our neighbour towns. Each town is unique and has its own attractions. We do however often get stuck in going to the same place and doing the same things over and over. So here are a few amazing things to do in the Swartland that should be high on your to do list.
This small town is situated between Moorreesburg and Piketberg on the N7 towards Namibia. The guest houses in the area make it a perfect getaway for the weekend since it’s a little more than an hour’s drive to get there.
On the hike there are 3 routes to choose from and they all offer exquisite views of the Cederberg & Winterhoek Mountains, the entire Swartland and even Table Mountain . The 3 circular hiking trails are all clearly marked and are fairly easy, but a little uneven and can be slippery when wet.
Permits can be obtained at the Moorreesburg Tourism Office as well as nearby guest houses.

This place is mind blowing! Not only is it one of only two museums of the sort in the world, but you can relive the history and production of wheat and take a look at wheat fossils found in a Pharoah’s Tomb in Egypt!
This is truly a world class facility, so make sure that the next time you are heading past Moorreesburg on the N7 to make the turn into town and visit the wheat industry museum.
